Besides a serious chunk save format incompatibility with 1.18 snapshots, a memory leak and a mistake in the hopper logic are fixed. For chunks generated in minecraft 1.17.1 (and presumably older versions) and subsequently loaded using minecraft 1.18.1, memory usage rapidly increases until the server crashes. A lot of performance improvements.

Only mod i had that was different was optifine i removed that and problem was still there. Fix for block shading (grass, vines and so on) pausing the game now pauses the physics. Worlds that were used with lithium will have chunk corruption when upgrading due to the breaking save format changes in the 1.18 snapshots.

For me it showed 4 leaks that all were related to java.net.urlclassloader. To install the release candidate, open up the minecraft launcher and enable snapshots in the installations tab. It the java world, memory cannot leak the same way.

Since The Memory Is Not Free Nor Is It Accessible At Any Point With Any Option To Reclaimed It, It Has Leaked.

For comparison, 1.12.2 uses only 500 mb of ram! This problem is apparently due to the datafixerupper introduced in 1.13. Release candidates are available for minecraft:

Memory leaks were the hallmark of c and c++ programming. I'm administrating a minecraft server running with spigot. Look at the heap dump using the eclipse memory analyzer.
